English Courses

Our General English courses are designed to improve your English language skills and give you more professional and academic options in the future. As well as taking lessons, you will have plenty of time to sight-see and explore your destination.The course is semi-intensive, and is available at all levels from Elementary to Advanced, with classes made up of different levels. The focus is on the four main aspects of language: reading, writing, listening and speaking, and all our schools offer extensive and varied activities programs to help you make the most of your destination.

International House Newcastle uses communicative methodology so students learn to use English effectively, especially in the vital skills of speaking and listening! Students may start their General English classes on any Monday. These classes are available at all levels - from complete beginner to advanced. All students will receive: a weekly work plan devised by their teachers; a weekly progress update; personal tutorials on a regular basis; course materials, including a study pack. Each lesson (teaching hour) is 55 minutes long, so there are scheduled break periods that take this into account. Our general class size is 12 students maximum (8 students on average). Actual timetable will depend on student's level, course and the number of lessons booked. Lessons will be scheduled between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Friday. The Personal Study Programme is also a key part of the IELTS Academic English, Cambridge Examination Preparation and Business English courses. It is a great way for students to improve on areas they find difficult as well as spend more time on the skills and vocabulary of their choice. Teachers advise and monitor students and the standard ratio is 1 teacher to 8 students

We mix face-to-face delivery with the latest technology and extracurricular activities to help you enhance your English skills quickly and easily. Our teachers are accomplished professionals who can guarantee that your academic progress is seamless and consistent.

ILSC offers a wide range of courses. You can take any combination you wish, depending on your interests, goals, language level and schedule. Most courses are offered at many different levels and last four weeks.

With this programme, you will develop fluency, accuracy and appropriate uses of English across all four language skills. You will benefit from excellent guidance, monitoring and feedback throughout this course. Taking the time to seriously focus on your English will open up unlimited opportunities for you. This programme is for students who study for 24 weeks or more.

A combination of a Standard English course plus 10 private lessons per week. A Standard English course helps you develop all the skills that you need to learn and understand English for everyday use, including reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Whether you need to develop your general communication skills or follow a customized program for professional and corporate clients, we will give you the specific language skills you need in personalized lessons so that you progress quickly. Topics can include IELTS, Business or other special subjects 

Our five month English Academic Semester course aims to get you from your current level of English up to a very high level of fluency. As well as this general English course, you can choose an Intensive Academic Semester course, in which you will study specific sections of vocabulary and skills, such as Business Intensive and exam preparation.Immerse yourself in the English language and spend a semester studying, getting to know a new location and culture. The course is an effective way to increase your fluency, and you will be helped by our exclusive and specially produced study materials.

The General English course will cover the four main skills you need to write and speak English(reading, writing, listening and speaking), with an emphasis on practical communication in common situations, such as travelling, shopping, and leisure time.There will be support with grammar and pronunciation, and we will also introduce study skills to help you to become an efficient learner and to keep learning English when you are out of the classroom.

This course is only available to students studying in the USA or Canada. With this English language course, you get 24 lessons (18 hours) per week of General English including four lessons per week in your choice of Special Focus study.

Our Intensive English Language course provides fundamental understanding of the English language through a balanced programme. Grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, colloquial language and idioms are all essential parts of our General English lessons.General English takes the students from Elementary (Basic survival English) to Advanced (Near proficiency English).
