English Courses in Ireland

This programme allows Non-EU students to progress through at least two levels over an 8-month period and gain a professional, internationally-recognised English qualification. Students on this programme can work 20 hours per week during the 6-month study period, and 40 hours per week during the 2 month holiday.
Award
All students who successfully complete the programme receive the ISI Certificate in English. Non-EU students must complete an official examination at the end
of the programme such as Trinity ISE, FCE, CAE and IELTS.
Entry requirements
Students should be at least 18 years old on the course start date.
Students on Academic Year Academic Year 15 (AY15) programmes are integrated with the General English classes. This creates an international mix of students, each doing courses of different durations. With a full 25-week programme, Academic Year students can expect to progress through at
least two levels during their course before completing their final exit examination. Our morning classes offer a greater international mix of students, while the
discounted afternoon classes tend to have fewer nationalities.

Berlitz Dublin’s Cambridge Certificate Preparation Course has been designed to prepare participants for entry into Cambridge Examinations process. The Cambridge Certificate Preparation course is delivered as both a stand-alone course and a Skills Module within our English Pathways Programme which can suit students with a busy schedule.

The General English Afternoon course offered by Cork English Academy is a 15 hours per week module which runs Monday to Friday 13:45 to 17:00 with a 15 minutes break each day.The daily three hour lesson covers all of the English language skills – speaking, listening, reading and writing with an emphasis on speaking and listening. The main focus of the General English 15 hour course is on communication skills in real life settings.Course books, workbooks and supplementary material including authentic materials such as newspaper articles newspapers, DVDs, the Internet, books and other media are utilized by the teacher to meet the language needs of all the individuals in the class.

We also emphasise the importance of learner autonomy, and our courses invite the learner to take responsibility for their progress, help them to develop their learning skills and the ability to develop themselves.Our adult course is divided into three stages according to English language level. At each stage the exit criteria are those specified in the relevant Integrated Skills Exam (ISE) for ILEP purposes by Trinity College London.All of our courses are project-based which means the students will learn English while working together and making use of technology as a basic tool of communication and a support for language learning. Our course has 15 hours of project-based tuition per week (morning or afternoon).STAGE 1: LIFE SKILLS THROUGH ENGLISH – LEVELS A2 TO B1The initial stage of our course is designed to help people to make a life in Dublin through English and deal successfully with all the situations that will arise at work, at home and socially. It aims to help develop communication skills that consider the cultural as well as the linguistic challenges to successful communication in English.STAGE 2: PROFESSIONAL COMMUNICATION – LEVELS B1 TO B2The second stage is designed for professionals who are interested in developing their spoken and written communication skills in an international and technology enhanced environment. The aim is to equip participants to communicate effectively in English in order to be able to progress professionally. Dublin is a hub for international technology companies who employ multinational teams to service European markets in the first language. The language of coordination and management in these companies is always English. however, and in order to progress in your career you need to be able to present yourself well and communicate effectively in that language. Effective communication is about more than just the language, it is about engagement with the culture of the company in an appropriate way.STAGE 3: FOUNDATION FOR STUDY THROUGH ENGLISH – LEVELS B2 TO C1The third stage is designed to equip people to make a success of studying in an English speaking country. The aim is to equip participants to communicate effectively in English in order to be able to progress academically. Effective communication is about more than just the language, it is about engaging with the educational culture in an appropriate way. It aims to help develop communication skills that consider the cultural as well as the linguistic challenges to successful studying in an English-speaking institution.

The GE Fluency Intensive 32 is one of our most intensive general English courses. It allows students to combine 20 lessons of general English in the mornings with 12 lessons of individual training in the afternoons. Before beginning their intensive English language course, students will complete a needs analysis and interview with our Academic Manager to design their individual afternoon program.

If you would like to improve all aspects of your English in a dynamic, engaging environment, this is the course for you. In our General English language course, you will focus on improving your reading, writing, speaking, listening, and pronunciation, as well as improving on and learning new grammar. A wide range of classes and levels ensures that you will be placed with students of the same ability. This course runs in the afternoons!!!

Intensive Plus Speaking Skills​The Intensive Plus Course is designed for students who wish to supplement their Intensive Course with extra conversation classes in small groups in the afternoons to improve fluency in English.It allows students to develop their language skills in the morning lessons and put these skills into practice in the afternoon group conversation classes. The smaller conversation classes help to facilitate meaningful discussion within the group. Teachers concentrate on vocabulary building and idiomatic language, leading to more natural English speech.The afternoon conversation classes are available at three levels, starting from pre-intermediate and cover a wide range of topics of discussion. A minimum language level of Pre-intermediate (A2) is required. This course is offered at the following levels: Pre-Intermediate (A2), Intermediate (B1), Upper Intermediate (B2).

The exam preparation courses are designed to help you achieve the result needed in your chosen language exam. These official language exams are used as a proof of language proficiency for immigration purposes, university admissions, or for employment. In this course you will learn and develop test-taking strategies and skills.

Full-time CELTA course (4 weeks) Monday to Friday 9am - 5pmThis is a fully-accredited 4-week intensive online course which prepares candidates to teach in botha regular classroom as well as in an online one. The course takes places fromMonday to Friday (9am to 5pm (GMT).Two sessions are delivered every morning by our tutors in an interactive and practical manner through the Zoom platform. These sessions are designed to help candidates acquire and put into practice the knowledge and techniques which are needed when teaching in a regular classroom environment as well as in an online classroom.Every morning also has preparation time when our tutors give guidance on how to prepare and plan for Teaching Practice. Like a regular face-to-face CELTA, candidates must complete 6 hours of Teaching Practice with lessons lasting from 40 to 60 minutes. This is done every afternoon of the course when candidates teach students from around the world through the Zoom platform. These lessons last from 2pm to 4pm when candidates either teach or observe their peers. Class feedback is done afterwards.Similar to the part-time course, there are 4 assignments and 6 hours of observation which need to be completed. No previous experience is needed in using the Zoom platform as training will be given prior to the commencement of the course. Attendance is 100% necessary for all morning input sessions and afternoon Teaching Practices.
