Interview with Dr. Bindu Varghese, Centre Director of EC New York: “Studying abroad helps students to learn more than just the language”

DR. BINDU VARGHESE, CENTRE DIRECTOR OF EC NEW YORK

Why should a student choose your school?

When students choose to study at an EC destination, they will feel like they are with family. We provide a home away from home for all of our students. Our team members are truly passionate about sharing our language and culture with our students, and we work our hardest to ensure that our students really enjoy their time and improve their English. From our world-class location with breathtaking views of Times Square to well developed curriculum taught by highly experienced instructors, EC New York students experience all the best things about learning English in New York. Additionally, we offer opportunities for students to apply their English outside of classes with a well-developed activities program, amazing course add-ons like English plus Dance, and more! Finally, we were the first school in New York to offer a program designed for more mature language learners. We have designed curriculum specific to this group of learners, and we are simply the best in the industry!

In your opinion, which are the main benefits for a student to study abroad?

Studying abroad helps students to learn more than just the language. You will learn the culture, the outlook, and the mannerisms of the people you interact with everyday. You will be able to expand your horizons and experience something that will change your life! While you will experience challenges, this will help you to become a stronger, more independent person.

How do you see the future of language tourism?

Language tourism will continue to grow and develop in the future. Living in a globalized world, it is essential that people acquire the language and skills to work and interact with people from all over the world. Language tourism is the intersection of this! While language education offers many digital opportunities, there is no way to learn about someone’s culture better than experiencing it first-hand.

What types of courses do you think will be most in demand in the future?

As curricula for English language education improves within home countries, students will likely move from seeking General English programs to more specialized English programs. Different fields of work will expect that their applicants have a strong level of English, so English for specific purposes (i.e. Legal English, English for Hospitality, etc.) will become the future. Additionally, University students will look for schools that offer pathways to further education within English speaking countries. The future for English language education is bright, and I’m proud that EC is at the forefront of this.
