The Intensive General English Course is suitable for students who want to maximise on work carried out in the Standard Course. This course takes place all year round. Morning lessons follow the same programme as the Standard Course from Monday to Friday (09.30 -13.00 in the UK). There are also three afternoon lessons a week Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday (14.00 -16.30 in the UK or 14.00-16.00 in Ireland) which are focused on improving the students’ speaking skills and ability to communicate through English. In the afternoon lessons, students have the opportunity to improve their communicative proficiency through discussions, topical debates, authentic materials and use of portable and static technology. Course content is partly negotiated and partly based on TED lectures.

On the General English 20 Course, you attend a core of 20 lessons per week (15 hours), which will give you a practical understanding of the English language and take you all the way to fluency. Your confidence will improve as we train you in all four communication skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing.

The General English course at ELC Bristol includes 21 full hours of classroom time per week plus daily homework. Your teacher will give you a coursebook that forms the basis of the General English syllabus at ELC Bristol. This course includes the General English classes, and also allows you to personalise your course by taking an additional 10 lessons per week across a wide selection of electives. You will benefit from excellent guidance, monitoring and feedback throughout this course. As your English and your confidence improve, you will broaden your horizons and gain a huge advantage in your chosen career or education. This programme is for students who study for 24 weeks or more.

This semi-intensive General English language course is made up of 25 lessons per week/18.7 hours per week that combine language learning with a special focus on developing critical-thinking and problem-solving skills. This is best for students who want a combination of morning and mid-day classes.

The 25+ Course is designed to make the best use of a short period of study. We aim to improve students' confidence and accuracy when they speak English. The course includes: English language work with a focus on Spoken English and conversation skills. Lessons are designed to develop confidence in using English in both social and professional situations. An adult environment in a building dedicated to our mature students over the age of 25. Social events and excursion possibilities to help students make the most of their short stay in Chester. Students will complete a questionnaire prior to their course and our staff will design the course programme to reflect their needs.
