Our General English language courses are suitable for anyone, from beginner to advanced level. If you want to improve your English for academic, personal or professional use, whatever your reasons, we have a course for you. Choose the intensity of study to suit your needs. Develop the four skills of speaking, writing, reading and listening, and increase your awareness of how English works. You will also learn and revise new vocabulary, improve your pronunciation and polish your English grammar! This course follows the Standard course structure with an additional 4 lessons of communicative skills practice per week. These extra lessons are designed to give you the chance to develop your confidence in speaking and listening.

This course is made up of 30 lessons (22.5 hours) per week including the General English classes. It also allows you to personalise your course by taking 10 lessons per week across a wide selection of Special Focus options.

Our Intensive General English language courses have been developed over many years of teaching experience. Innovative and communicative teaching methods are used and form the basis of our teaching. Our General English Programme offers a choice of courses for everyone who needs an improved level of English for academic, social or professional reasons. This specific General English course has 20 lessons per week. Minimum stay of 20 weeks.

The Standard General English Course takes place all year round. Lessons are held every morning, from Monday to Friday (09.30 – 13.00 in the UK). Students will work on improving the skills involved with speaking, listening, reading and writing, so that they can improve their comprehension and communicate more freely. They will work on their linguistic knowledge, increasing their vocabulary and deepening their understanding of the grammar and structure of the language. Courses at CES are communicative and task-based, using the most up to date technology and authentic materials. Students are then free in the afternoons to join our exciting social programme, use the self-access facilities, or to explore the rich history and culture of Ireland and the UK.

Our Semi-Intensive English course is a semi-intensive programme that allows you to balance classroom tuition with structured study and free time activities. You will improve your English language ability at a speed you feel comfortable with, while having time to enjoy your destination. This course is available at all levels from Elementary to Advanced and you will be placed in a class which is suitable for your level. The course focuses on the four main aspects of language: reading, writing, listening and speaking. You’ll also learn vocabulary and grammar, and how to speak in formal and informal discussions and strategies.

The General English course at ELC Bristol includes 21 full hours of classroom time per week plus daily homework. Your teacher will give you a coursebook that forms the basis of the General English syllabus at ELC Bristol. They also often use a wide range of materials to provide a balanced curriculum and reflect students’ needs and requests. The General English course at ELC Bristol is flexible and varied. Our teachers often change the course programme after discussion with their students. Teachers display a weekly plan to keep students informed.

The General English Course at ELC Eastbourne is designed to give you the confidence to communicate effectively in real-life situations. The course provides effective English language training for people who need English for work, further study,travel/tourism or for your own pleasure. In addition, it can help provide preparation for a number of exams including IELTS, TOEFL, TOEIC, KET and PET. There is a balanced programme, focusing on the skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing, whilst covering essential grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, idioms and colloquial language.

This General English language course has 24 Lessons per week. Beginner to Advanced levels are available. 1 lesson: 50 minutes. During the lessons you rapidly improve your communication skills in a variety of everyday situations. In 2 lessons each day you will cover the following areas: grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation. In a further 2 lessons you concentrate on: speaking, listening, reading, writing. You use a text book and a wide variety of materials and exercises including roleplays, authentic materials, newspapers and magazines.

This Academic Year Abroad option (AYA) can be between 24 and 48 weeks. Each lesson is 50 minutes long. Recommended start dates: First Monday of January, April and September** 2 additional weekly sessions with an LSI teacher. These sessions include language review and support, professional development and college/university application support.* Beginner to Upper Intermediate levels* Max class size: 15 students. Age 16+* Course options: General English Courses, Exam courses, Academic English, Pathways, Business English* Regular testing, academic counselling and assistance with university placementSpend up to a year abroad, achieve a high level of fluency in your chosen language and make new friends from all over the world. ATA and AYA programmes differ from shorter courses at LSI because students receive a greater level of academic support and management, including two additional weekly sessions with a teacher. An individual study plan is designed for you to suit your level, individual aims and the duration of your course. We continue to check your progress with regular meetings to make sure you achieve your aims.

Our five month English Academic Semester course aims to get you from your current level of English up to a very high level of fluency. As well as this general English course, you can choose an Intensive Academic Semester course, in which you will study specific sections of vocabulary and skills, such as Business Intensive and exam preparation.Immerse yourself in the English language and spend a semester studying, getting to know a new location and culture. The course is an effective way to increase your fluency, and you will be helped by our exclusive and specially produced study materials.
