Pathways programmes at LSI's schools in Auckland help students gain access into many respected New Zealand higher learning institutions. Pathways programmes focus mostly on English language training but also provide support and assistance with university and college applications. In addition, a number of LSI partner institutions in NZ offer conditional letters of acceptance to LSI students and recognise LSI levels in place of external tests of English.

English for Academic Purposes courses provide language instruction for students who wish to study at a university where English is the language of instruction. Language skills addressed include: listening comprehension, fluency development, oral intelligibility, reading, grammar, writing, and vocabulary development for University levels.

Our five month English Academic Semester course aims to get you from your current level of English up to a very high level of fluency. As well as this general English course, you can choose an Intensive Academic Semester course, in which you will study specific sections of vocabulary and skills, such as Business Intensive and exam preparation. Immerse yourself in the English language and spend a semester studying, getting to know a new location and culture. The course is an effective way to increase your fluency, and you will be helped by our exclusive and specially produced study materials.

ILSC is a fully-integrated English instruction institution with modern facilities spread across two floors. ILSC–Melbourne is equipped with a total of 29 classrooms and 2 computer labs. You may be asked to leave the lab if a teacher wished to use the computers for a class. The inviting break-out spaces provide students with access to free filtered water (hot and cold), microwaves and refrigerators, as well as vending machines with snacks and cold drinks available for a nominal fee. The ILSC café, which is run by students, sells during the breaks barista-made coffees as well as tea, chai and hot chocolate. There are several study tables which are equipped with charging stations for you to power up your cell phones and other devices. The campus also has foozball and ping pong tables, as well as a video game console that are free to use. In order to play video games and ping pong, see reception and pay a deposit in order to get access. A prayer room is also available to students.

English for Academic Purposes (EAP) courses will prepare students who want to achieve academic success in English-speaking universities. Courses cover a variety of relevant and interesting topics, both Canadian and international. As well, EAP will also provide a solid foundation of language skills for students preparing for high stakes official exams such as IELTS, CAE, and LinguaSkill. WRITINGDemonstrate the use of writing strategies such as researching information, creating an outline, understanding the elements of different essay types, writing 5+ paragraph essays, and using editing and peer feedback strategies utilizing a rubric. EAP 300 - Pre-Advanced FOCUS EAP 300 integrates the four primary skills of English with academic language. Using authentic materials, the course provides practical help in developing essential skills for academic study. EAP 400 – High-Advanced FOCUS            EAP 400 is an advanced English course designed to prepare students to attend university at an English-speaking institution. Upon completion of EAP 400, students may apply to VanWest partner universities without further language requirements. As well, students are well-prepared for post-secondary programs at VanWest College.

French for Academic Purposes courses provide language instruction for students who wish to study at a university where English is the language of instruction. The Semester GAP Program schedules are perfect for students with long term educational goals. Students study 25 lessons per week with a student visa. The study period is 23 weeks with a 1 week break. Study choices of General English, TOEFL, TOEIC or Business English can be changed every term (4 weeks) provided the minimum language requirement and minimum student enrollment are met. Highlights: • Six study terms (4 weeks=1 term) of intensive English language education with a scheduled 1 week break • Variety of study programs to choose from based on student interest • Choice of 3 program enrollment dates each year • F-1 Student Visa is required

UNIVERSITY & COLLEGE PATHWAYSAfter completion of the EAP pathway program students can enter several Canadian universities. Students do not have to write the TOEFL or IELTS exams.Conditional AdmissionStudents who have completed our University Pathway Program will meet the English language proficiency requirements; however, students must apply separately with all supporting academic documents for entry into our partnered universities. Canadian College of English Language staff will assist with this process. Some of our pathway partners accept students at lower levels–please ask one of our experts for details.English Level RequirementTo be accepted into ENGL140, students must pass ENGL125 or score 60% on our ENGL130 exam. Students with an IELTS of 5.5 are also permitted. In order to take ENGL145, students must successfully complete ENGL140.
