With this General English language course you will join multi-national language classes following a syllabus closely mapped to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, covering key language domains, skills and competencies appropriate to your level of ability. Objectives: This programme of study is intended to enhance the all-round language and communication skills of those who wish to work or study more effectively in an international context. The Intensive General English Course is suitable for students who want to maximise on work carried out in the Standard Course. This course takes place all year round. Morning lessons follow the same programme as the Standard Course from Monday to Friday (09.30 -13.00). There are also three afternoon lessons a week Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday (14.00 -16.30 in the UK) which are focused on improving the students’ speaking skills and ability to communicate through English. In the afternoon lessons, students have the opportunity to improve their communicative proficiency through discussions, topical debates, authentic materials and use of portable and static technology. Course content is partly negotiated and partly based on TED lectures.

Our Conversation and Pronunciation English programmes focus on developing speaking skills, improving pronunciation and building conversational skills and strategies. This will help you express yourself confidently and effectively in spoken interaction, both socially and in more formal settings and global situations.

Our English 20 language course allows you to develop language skills and confidence by making the course about you and your specific needs. The course provides you with core English for Life study classes and an additional class each day focusing on speaking, plus one other language area you need to improve.

The standard Beginners English Language Course will help you develop your basic English language skills and to build your confidence when communicating in English. You will study every morning, and on Monday and Wednesday afternoons. Tuesday, Thursday and Friday afternoons are free for self study, for you to join our social activities or explore London. St Giles London Highgate offers the International Semester Language Course to students wishing to experience British life and study General English for 6 months or longer. Additional modules also available at St Giles London Highgate are: Cambridge English or IELTS exam preparation, English for Business, English for Art & Design and English for University Studies.

The Intensive Course is our most popular choice. It combines 20 general English lessons (15 hours) with 8 Special Interest Group (SIG) lessons per week (6 hours). In the general English lessons, students will focus on improving their English language skills across the 4 key skill areas at a consistent rate — reading, writing, listening and speaking. In the Special Interest Group lessons, students can choose from a number of different options based on their own interests and language learning goals. Example options include — Exam Preparation (IELTS, TOEFL, Cambridge); Business English; Group Discussion; Art and Design; Speech and Pronunciation; Academic Writing Skills; etc. The Intensive Course is available year-round with weekly start dates, and is suitable for students of all English levels.
