CELTA English Teacher Training (24H/W)

CELTA is an internationally recognised teaching qualification, accepted by organisations which employ English language teachers. It is highly regarded and gives trainees the skills required for English teaching positions throughout the world. The course is suitable for people who want to start a career in English language teaching or who are already teaching English with no formal qualification. NZLC runs unique 5 week Full-Time courses so students can have more time to prepare.NZLC 5 week CELTA courseThis approach offers clear advantages over the more traditional 4-week course: One integrated study day per week allowing more time to research written assignments and plan lessonsLess pressure / reduced stressGreater enjoyment of the whole experience.Course FeesNZ $3,400 (or NZ $3,300 with early bird discount) including GST and Cambridge English fee.Course participants are not normally eligible for student loans but any inquiries should be directed to the appropriate authority.Early bird special: $100 discount for applicants who book and pay the $500 deposit 7 weeks prior to the course start date.Course ContentAt the heart of the course is six hours of teaching practice. Input sessions on language awareness and methodology relate directly to this, as do the classroom observations and written assignments.Language awareness - grammar, vocabulary, phonology and how language is used to express different meanings.Methodology - procedures and techniques for language teaching.Teaching practice - six hours of supervised teaching at two different levels, supported with guided lesson planning and personalized feedback on lessons.Teaching practice - six hours of supervised teaching at two different levels, supported with guided lesson planning and personalized feedback on lessons.Classroom observations - six hours of experienced teachers in action.Written assignments - four assignments (750 -1000 words each) on language teaching and learning.Entry Requirements for CELTAAged 18 +Level in English: Native English speaker or equivalent (C1+ to C2 or Advanced CAE ‘A’ or ‘B’ grade or IELTS 7.5)Academic Requirement: University Entrance (UE) or equivalentHave the potential to develop the necessary skills to become effective teachers and to complete successfully the written assignments and the assessment of practice teaching.
