Studying a General English Language Course will give you an understanding of the English language and take you all the way from beginner to fluency. This course focuses on communication skills, speaking, listening, reading and writing. General English Full-Time is CRICOS registered and consists of a minimum of 20 hours per week with an additional 5 hours per week of Guided Individual Learning (GIL) We understand that every english student comes to Australia with unique goals, plans and learning needs. On the Intensive English Language Course, you will follow the same program as the Standard General English Language Course in the mornings. You will also have afternoon classes and the chance to improve your English language skills even further. These lessons help to build your knowledge of the language, focusing primarily on helping you increase your vocabulary and improve your grammar so that you reach the levels of accuracy you need. In the afternoons, you will be able to further practice the language you have learned in the morning, with a strong focus on listening, reading, speaking, and writing skills through discussions, role plays, video work, and listening exercises.

Our Semi-Intensive English course is a semi-intensive programme that allows you to balance classroom tuition with structured study and free time activities. You will improve your English language ability at a speed you feel comfortable with, while having time to enjoy your destination. This course is available at all levels from Elementary to Advanced and you will be placed in a class which is suitable for your level. The course focuses on the four main aspects of language: reading, writing, listening and speaking. You’ll also learn vocabulary and grammar, and how to speak in formal and informal discussions and strategies.

Students join the Standard Course in General English which allows them to practice all the language skills. The Intensive Course offers 10 additional lessons which are devoted to speaking, where students wishing to focus on improving their oral fluency can discuss and debate a wide range of topics. The aim of this course is to help students to communicate, and emphasis is placed on encouraging their fluency and confidence in using the English language. Lessons may be held in the morning or in the afternoon.

The General English syllabus is 15 hours (15 x 60) per week and is designed to improve the student's understanding of the four skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing. All levels from elementary to advanced are catered for throughout the year. This course runs in the afternoons and is designed for those students who wish to have free time to explore the city or do other activities.

This course is suitable for students who wish to improve their fluency, vocabulary and pronunciation in a language. There is an emphasis on language for everyday situations and classes may involve discussing topics such as film and theatre, current events, politics, local culture and the internet.

The Standard General English Course takes place all year round. Lessons are held every morning, from Monday to Friday (09.30 – 13.00 in the UK). Students will work on improving the skills involved with speaking, listening, reading and writing, so that they can improve their comprehension and communicate more freely. They will work on their linguistic knowledge, increasing their vocabulary and deepening their understanding of the grammar and structure of the language. Courses at CES are communicative and task-based, using the most up to date technology and authentic materials. Students are then free in the afternoons to join our exciting social programme, use the self-access facilities, or to explore the rich history and culture of Ireland and the UK.
