English Courses

Studying a General English course will give you an understanding of the English language and take you all the way from beginner to fluency. This course focuses on communication skills, speaking, listening, reading and writing. UMC has official start dates every 8 weeks in Montreal. Students are allowed to start anytime they want, but they need to be advised about the calendar. We do not recommend they start on the last week of the terms because you'll only review the content and take the final exam.

A Standard English course helps you develop all the skills that you need to learn and understand English for everyday use, including reading, writing, listening, and speaking.The key aim of the class is to improve your ability to communicate clearly and effectively.

General Language English classes are an opportunity for you to improve not only your speaking skills, but also to practise reading, writing, and listening. Each lesson consists of a mix of grammar, vocabulary, and communicative activities to keep the class lively and interesting. This intensive language course combines the General English course plus our range of modules, soyou get to personalise your course totally to fit your needs.

With this programme, you will develop fluency, accuracy and appropriate uses of English across all four language skills. You will benefit from excellent guidance, monitoring and feedback throughout this course. Taking the time to seriously focus on your English will open up unlimited opportunities for you. This programme is for students who study for 24 weeks or more.

This course develops all aspects of language competence in a personalised programme coordinated by the core teacher. Our General English Morning 20 course covers the key language learning areas of reading, writing, speaking and listening, using skills-based and situational learning combined with one-to-one tutorials and regular progress tests to respond to the student’s individual learning needs. This programme runs for a minimum of 8 weeks and is ideal for students who want to develop fluency in English similar to that of a native speaker. Students will be evaluated by our Director of Studies on their first day of school to determine the course of study, and their progress will be continually monitored throughout their stay. During their interview, students will be asked what their purpose for study is so that our trainers can work towards this aim by helping them to achieve their goal.

The Intensive General English Language morning course is our most popular option for students enrolling from overseas. They offer full immersion and the chance to engage with other students throughout the day, to have full access to school services and to participate in our English Extras classes and social activities. The General English Language course focuses on improving your all-round English and in particular your communication skills. Our focus is on students interacting and communicating with each other and getting you to use the language you learn to make you more fluent and confident in English.

This Long Stay programme runs for a minimum of 8 weeks and is ideal for students who want to develop fluency in English similar to that of a native speaker. Our Bespoke English Language programs identify and target individual student needs and prepare them to confidently use English for general communication in a wide range of situations, including travel, work and social interaction. Our General English language courses are suitable for anyone, from beginner to advanced level. If you want to improve your English for academic, personal or professional use, whatever your reasons, we have a course for you. Choose the intensity of study to suit your needs. We offer a standard course, which is primarily designed to develop the four skills of speaking, writing, reading and listening, and to increase your awareness of how English works. You will also learn and revise new vocabulary, improve your pronunciation and polish your English grammar! This Super Intensive language course follows the Intensive course structure with an additional 4 lessons in all 4 skills plus pronunciation and lexical extension.
