English Courses

Our Intensive English program offers a fast, enjoyable and effective way to improve your English language skills, whatever your current language level. You have the opportunity to customize your course with specific skills lessons, including business English and exam preparation. The course allows you to quickly achieve English fluency and learn grammar and vocabulary that will be useful in every day English. You can study for as long as you need to, and by doing so will improve your opportunities in future academic and professional endeavours.

The Intensive General English Course is suitable for students who want to maximise on work carried out in the Standard Course. This course takes place all year round. Morning lessons follow the same programme as the Standard Course from Monday to Friday (09.30 -13.00 in the UK). There are also three afternoon lessons a week Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday (14.00 -16.30 in the UK or 14.00-16.00 in Ireland) which are focused on improving the students’ speaking skills and ability to communicate through English. In the afternoon lessons, students have the opportunity to improve their communicative proficiency through discussions, topical debates, authentic materials and use of portable and static technology. Course content is partly negotiated and partly based on TED lectures.

This General English language course is only available to students studying in the USA or Canada. You get 24 lessons (18 hours) per week of General English including four lessons per week in your choice of Special Focus study. Your confidence will improve as we train you in all four communication skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing.

Apart from the 20 L/W of General English that students have, with this option the choice of two electives is available. There are electives suitable for each level, some of the options are: pronunciation, grammar, speaking, English for business, critical response, English for public speaking, English for social media...

The General English + One-to-One course is designed to give you a mix of group classes and 1:1 lessons where you can focus on your specific language needs. You study on the core morning programme of the General English course in a mixed-national class at your level for 20 lessons per week. You can then study 5 individual lessons per week with a teacher who will design a study programme based your specific needs.

This English language course from VanWest Vancouver is based on an integrated skill curriculum, morning classes will teach you specific strategies to improve your English language. This English language course will build students’ understanding of the basic grammar, vocabulary, and functions of the English language. This course allows taking 2 extra lessons daily than a standard General English Course.

The Combination Course takes place all year round, from Monday to Friday. Morning lessons follow the same programme as the Standard Course. There are two afternoons a week of one-to-one lessons, designed to meet the individual requirements of each student. Prior to the first one-to-one session, students complete a Needs Analysis which helps the teacher to plan the one-to-one lessons according to the student’s specific needs. Teachers then work closely with the student to ensure these needs are being met. All students receive a final report detailing their progress and outlining future areas for attention. The minimum age is 16 and there is a maximum of 14 students per class. A combination course is 26.6lessons (20 hours) per week. 15 hours General English in the mornings and 5 hours one-to-one lessons in the afternoons in the UK.

The General English Courses are designed for learners of all levels and have an emphasis on speaking, communication and a high level of learner participation. The goal is to improve your accuracy and fluency as you move up the levels from beginner to advanced plus. These courses will give you the skills you need to communicate effectively in English, and will provide a strong foundation of grammar, vocabulary, reading, writing, and spoken English.

Studying a General English course will give you an understanding of the English language and take you all the way from beginner to fluency. This course focuses on communication skills, speaking, listening, reading and writing.
