3 countries to learn English cheaply

Malta

English is one of the official languages of this former British colony, which is also one of the cheapest countries in Europe.

The island has a wide variety of English language schools, whose varied prices are often cheaper than those of schools in other popular destinations, such as Ireland or the United Kingdom. Accommodation, food, transportation and excursions can also be more affordable than in those countries, so your overall expenses will be lower. In addition to better prices, Malta is a charming island with a wealth of history and beaches known to be some of the best in the Mediterranean. At Ynsitu you have many different options for learning English in Malta.

South Africa

If you want to save money while studying in a destination of extraordinary contrasts, we advise you to put South Africa at the top of your list. In this former British colony, you will learn not only the English language, but also the culture of a very diverse and exotic place.

If you choose to study English in Cape Town (voted one of the most beautiful cities in the world by CNN Travel and Forbes magazine on several occasions), you will find world-renowned English language schools, as well as affordable accommodation options.

Another attraction of studying in South Africa is the value of its currency, the rand. Its low value against the euro makes food, transportation and excursions much cheaper than in other popular destinations such as Australia or New Zealand.

India

If you are a fan of captivating and mystical cultures, India may be the right place for your English course abroad. The country, which was also a British colony in the past, is the second largest nation in the world with the largest number of English speakers after the United States, and is also home to highly qualified teachers.

If you take an English course in India, you will be able to visit emblematic places like the Taj Mahal or the city of Bombay, besides finding a great diversity of magical places like deserts, beautiful beaches and the Himalayas.

In this country the money is very good because the transportation, food and lodging are very cheap if you compare them with western countries.

Apart from choosing an economical destination, here are 10 tips to make your study abroad trip cheaper:

  1. Compare schools and courses on Ynsitu’s website. You can also filter schools by price, see current promotions and choose the program that best suits your budget.
  2. Book your course in advance. Many schools offer discounts for students who book months in advance.
  3. Try to travel in low season. The high season for language courses usually coincides with the summer in each country, so it may be a good idea to go to Australia in July or Malta in December.
  4. Travel to cities less sought after by students. There are many schools located near the most popular cities that offer cheaper courses and accommodation, such as Boca Raton in the United States (instead of Miami) or Cork in Ireland (instead of Dublin).
  5. Book your flight in advance, be flexible with the flight date and look for local and low cost airlines.
  6. Search and compare travel insurance and, if in doubt, talk to one of Ynsitu’s Academic Advisors to get a recommendation for an economical option.
  7. Choose the cheapest accommodation option. The cheapest option offered by the schools is usually a shared room/bathroom with a host family, but shop around. It may also be a good idea to book accommodation close to the school to save money on public transportation.
  8. Plan ahead how you will organize your meals. Eating out in restaurants can be very expensive in some countries, so if you don’t plan to cook or have meals included with the school, you will need a Plan B.
  9. Choose free activities or inexpensive excursions. Most schools offer free extracurricular activities such as beach volleyball or dance classes at the school. Take advantage of anything you don’t have to pay for!
  10. Shop around for the best places to exchange currency (airports and banks often charge higher rates than exchange offices).
