The Diploma of Intensive English course has 28 lessons (21 hours) per week total — 20 lessons of general English + 8 lessons of Special Interest Group (SIG) classes. In the general English lessons, students will focus on improving your English across the 4 core skill areas of reading, writing, speaking and listening. Each week, the classes will be designed around a specific topic and students will build their understanding of the language and learn how to use their skills through the areas such as — linguistic resource and awareness; communication skills; study skills; cultural and personal development skills. In the afternoons, students will take Special Interest Group lessons. They can choose from a number of different options based on their interests and language learning goals. Students will normally change their afternoon class every 6 – 8 weeks, so they will be able to take a number of different options throughout a long-term course. Example classes include — Business English; TOEFL Exam Preparation; Cambridge Exam Preparation; Discussion skills; American Culture; Survival English; Cinema and Television; Speaking and Listening; etc. Alongside weekly progress tests in class, students will also have more detailed progress assessments and one-to-one tutorials with a senior teacher every 6 weeks. At the end of the course you will be issued with a Kings End of Course Report and End of Course Certificate. Outside of class, there are many opportunities to join clubs and societies; social activities; excursions and trips to other parts of the city; attend weekly lectures; meet with university counsellors; join career guidance workshops; and more.
